More than £2,500 was raised for the West Yorkshire Air Ambulance Appeal at a grand auction held at a Hebden Bridge pub last Friday.

The auction at Marshalls Bar, Carlton Street, was also attended by the Mayor of Calderdale Coun Patrick Phillips whose mayoral charity is the Air Ambulance Appeal and the Mayor of Hebden Royd Coun Christine Bampton-Smith.

The civic guests were welcomed by the manager of Marshalls Mr John Taylor.

More than 100 lots went under the hammer which had been donated by local businesses and the star item of one hour in an light airplane raised £175.

The auction also included a sum of £1,063.25 raised with the opening of a one gallon whisky bottle which had been on the bar since March. The competition for how much was in the bottle was won by Mr Steve Matthew who was just 18 pence out.

Mr Taylor said: "It is a fantastic amount for such a worthy cause. It is amazing, the people of Hebden Bridge are so generous. The Air Ambulance is a life-saver for people in the upper Calder valley."

Councilor Mrs Bampton-Smith said: "The efforts of the members of the pub were magnificent, and it was astonishing the bottle contained over £1,000."

"It was a great event with more than £2,500 being raised for the Air Ambulance. Thanks go to all those who worked so hard to raise so much for the Air Ambulance."
